Follow Friday #22

Welcome to Follow Friday hosted this week by Parajunkee and Alison!
The main idea behind FF is just to go see a bunch of new blogs you may never have seen before, and follow the ones you like (and they’ll follow you back!) It’s a total win/win, so take a peek around!

This week’s question is:

What is your favorite movie?

I don't have a favorite movie. I have moods. I once watched The Fellowship Of The Ring for an entire summer. Once a day. Every single day. Because I could and because back then (I was in middle school) we had no internet. And we still used a VHS. Then I was in a romcon stage and I watched every time I could Dirty Dancing. So I get moods and I even watch one single movie until I get sick of it, or similar movies. Like when I binge watched the newer Marvel movies. I'm more of a TV show girl nowadays though.

What about you? What is your favorite movie?

This week’s question is:

If you can step into one characters shoes (in a book) and be them for a day who would it be and why? Also if you want to be creative, what scene?

This is a tough question. There are so many characters that I love and that I'd want to switch places for a day. I'll go with Savitar from the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon. Several reasons for it:
 - I get to know EVERYTHING! All the things I've ever wanted to know about the series, past, present and future are in his head, I'm sure of it!
 - I get to be as sarcastic as I want and I know that my buddy Ash will understand and appreciate my sarcasm;
 - I get to have my own island;
 - I'm powerful and really, really old. Which means I got to see mankind in Ancient times. So yay for the history nerd in me;
 - because he's so old he knows a lot of languages. I love learning languages (did I ever mention I'm weird that way? No? Well, I am!).

That's who I'd want to be for a day. Who would you be for a day if you could?

This week’s question is:

Here is €/£/$100,000. Buy something. Anything at all! What would be the first thing you choose, and why?

I'd buy a house. Or make the deposit for one. OR I could invest the money (which for truth's sake, I'll never be able to, because when it comes to economics, I'm in way, waaaay over my head, but this is a hypothetical situation, right? :P ) and after a while I'd be able to build my dream house, which includes a huge library *dreamy sigh*

What would you do it someone gave you €/£/$100,000 ?

This week’s question is:

What book (or TV show or movie) have you not read that seemingly everyone else has?

Book: Aside from the obvious Twilight, the book I haven't yet read that I believe everyone on this planet has (and I have a suspicion they've heard about it on some other planets as well) is Divergent

TV Show: Game Of Thrones. There, I said it. I tried to watch it, can't say I enjoyed it that much (I haven't read the books, but ever since True Blood, I'm a bit weary of books turned tv shows for HBO)

Movie: Um... There are a lot of movies that everyone has seen that I haven't. Right now the one that comes to mind is Spider-Man 3. I must admit that since I'm not a huge fan of spiders in general, Spider Man is my least favorite superhero.

What about you?

This week’s question is:

Confess your blogger sins! Is there anything as a newbie blogger that you’ve done, that as you gained more experience you were like — oops?

Oh, so many. One of them was choosing my blogger alias based on my hair color. Yes, I lack imagination when it comes to names. Then there's NetGalley. Oh, how I love that site. I do. But when I first started blogging I didn't have a compatible ereader and I found it terribly difficult to read on my computer for hours and hours and hours. That and I also requested books like a crazy person. I now know not to overwhelm myself and request fewer books. But I do mistakes even now. Not posting every day, not commenting as much as I should, not socialize as much as I should. Another big mistake was overwhelming myself with reading challenges. Most of them are great and at least half of them helped me discover more authors and new genres than I wouldn't have without them. But I think it's best if I do about 4 "officially" and the others sort of in the background, like an inspiration to the big "what to read now?" question.

What about you? What are your blogger sins?

This week’s question is:

Q: Birthday Wishes -- Blow out the candles and imagine what character could pop out of your cake...who is it and what book are they from?

Just one? *frown* Oh, there are so many great, hot male characters out there. Even some female characters too that I'd like in my cake. *taps chin* Let's see, I would LOVE to get Acheron and Savitar from Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. Ummm... Oh, and then there's Cherise Sinclair's Doms. Don't ask which, 'cause I can't decide *sheepish* And Lestat :D

This week’s question is:

Q: What is one thing you wish you could tell your favorite author?

Well, I'd shamelessly beg Sherrilyn Kenyon for a Savitar book. And I'd beg for it to be released today. NOW. I know, I sound like Gollum, but I do love Savitar :D I'd also ask J.R. Ward for a Muhrder book. Hmm, I'm pretty sure that if I think about it long and hard, I'd have a think to tell (beg, bribe, whimper) to all my favorite authors.

This week’s question is:

Q: What is one book that you would be nervous to see a movie adaption of because you think the movie could never live up to the book?

I think I'd be nervous about all the books I love to have a movie adaptation. I think there are very few movies that are just as good as the books they're based on. I think I might be more comfortable with a TV show adaptation if the book in question is part of a series. Then again, there's a certain TV show (that I'm not going to name for fear of flying projectiles thrown my way :P ) that ruined the books for me, so I think it's a very difficult thing to make a good movie/TV show while staying true to the book(s).

This week’s question is:

Q: Have you ever bought a book BECAUSE of a bad review?

No, to be honest. Besides the fact that I rarely read reviews before I read the book, I believe that reviews are very personal. I've lost count of how many books I loved and others hated or books I couldn't care less about (and some I actually regret buying, let alone reading) that others loved them.

This week’s question is:

Q: Do you read one book at a time or do you switch back and forth between two or more?

I usually have at least 3 books that I read at the same time. And that is not counting any rereads I might do in the meantime. It's very rare that I can focus on just one book at a time. And it's usually curiosity or (as you probably know) a shiny cover that makes me stray and start the second and third book. I try to be "faithful" to the genres though. I never read two books from the same genre at the same time, or I get confused sometimes. It doesn't happen very often, but sometimes I tend to mix them up if I do read two books of the same genre. But as long as I'm reading a paranormal and a historical for example, I know which character is in which book and what happened where and when.

This week’s question is:

I like unique names for characters and am looking forward to coming up with some when I start writing. What's the most unique character name you've come across?

This is a difficult one. Since I've started reading paranormal and fantasy stories, novels, books (call them what you want/like) I've encountered a lot of unique names. I couldn't tell you which was the most unique, because they all are in a way. So I'm going to list some of my favorite below, with the book and author, and let you be the judge.

I could go on and on, but I'd probably bore you to death. That and I can't think of other unique names (cool too) at the moment. I love unique names, because they make the characters memorable. I will always know who Aragorn is, as I'll always know who you're talking about when you say Lothaire or Eidolon or DiStephan.

What's the most unique name you've encountered so far?

This week’s question is:

What would your prefer: reading your favorite book over and over again until you got sick of it OR reading 100s of mediocre books? And why?

100s of mediocre books. First, because the chances of finding something I'd like is, of course, bigger than rereading the same book over and over. Second, because while I love rereading some of my favorite books once in a while, I feel like I'd lose any enjoyment after a while. Though I admit, after the 10th mediocre book, chances are bigger for me to reread my favorite book at least twice.

The main idea behind FF is just to go see a bunch of new blogs you may never have seen before, and follow the ones you like (and they’ll follow you back!) It’s a total win/win, so take a peek around and follow me!

This week’s question is:

Q: Define what characteristics your favorite books share. Do they all have a kickass heroine or is the hot love interest the Alpha Male?

There are so many shared characteristics, I don't know how to start. First of all, the main characters are strong. They're not moaning and bitching every 5 seconds, nor do they cry in every scene. Crying is good, but does it have to be all the damn time?

Second, there's a little mystery in the main plot. There's always a little something that will be discovered at the very end of the book, something that I couldn't anticipate. I hate it when I decipher the clues way too early on when the author shows me every card he/she has up his/her sleeve. If there's a serial killer to be tracked down and locked up, don't tell me who he is, it will make me want to throw the book across the room and I don't like that.

Another characteristic most of them share is humor. I say most, because some of them don't have humor, but most of the books I read have a funny scene at least. Either that, or I find the sarcasm of a certain character hilarious, which is just as good. I love a character that is sarcastic, without being disrespectful.

There are many, many more characteristics, but these are the most important for me.

What about you?

This week’s question is:

Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

I avoid all books with aliens. Here's the thing. When I was a kid I loved Star Trek: The Next Generation. You know, the one with Captain Jean-Luc Picard. I was obsessed with that show. After that, I compare all science fiction shows and books with Star Trek. It's not something I want to do, I mean, I'd wish I didn't. But I feel that there really isn't an alien show/book out there better than that one. So I avoid books with aliens.

What genres do you avoid and why?

This week’s question is:

Many readers/bloggers are also big music fans. Tell us about a few of your favorite bands/singers that we should listen to in 2012.

I love music. I've never stopped to make a list of my favorite bands/singers, because it would probably take me too long. I can tell you I listen to almost everything: from country to hard rock, from classical music to hip hop. So I don't exactly have a specific genre that I listen to on an on, it all depends on my mood. Here are a few of the bands/singers that are on my playlist currently (but please, bear in mind that the playlist is way bigger than even I could listen in 24 hours *blushes*)

Like I said, I love music. And music helps me stay focused (I could never function during mid-terms otherwise, not to mention I need music to concentrate on my studying)

So this is like a grain of sand from my list of favorites. What are your favorite bands?

This week’s question is:

The New Year is here -- and everyone wants to know your New Years Blogging Resolution! What are you going to try to revise, revamp and redo for 2012 on your blog?

*taps chin* I promised I wasn't going to think about resolutions, since I can't manage to complete them. I'm thinking it can't do any damage though to hope to do some new stuff :) So here's my list:

  1. Comment more. I need to do that. I don't comment near as much as I'd like, so I will to do that in the year that is about to begin.
  2. Book Reviewing: Like I said in another post, I need to post my reviews fast, as soon as I finish reading the books, otherwise I forget important details.
  3. TBR pile: I need to go through that loooooooong list of books that are just waiting (im)patiently for me to pick them up and read them. So I promise this year I'll make that list smaller. It can never disappear, since that would mean I've stopped reading (which will never happen), but I can make it smaller, at least for a few days.
I've decided to keep it simple, so I'm stopping there. As it's normal, the more I think about it, more and more things I need to do next year for my blog keep popping up, but I'm stopping at only these 3 things.

So those are my resolutions. What are yours?

This week’s question is:

Question of the Week: When you've read a book, what do you do with it? (Keep it, give it away, donate it, sell it, swap it..?

I always keep my books, even if it's one that I didn't enjoy that much. The reason is that I'm attached to all of my books. If I went to the "trouble" of buying them, I am so not giving them away. The only way I'm going to sell them/give them away is if I have multiple copies of the same edition. But that's it. I care for my books no matter if they're ruined or they don't have the prettiest cover or if I didn't quite like the subject.

Another reason for me not giving them away is that I'm sometimes in the mood to reread some of the "old" books. Not always and it only applies to certain books that I loved, but I do reread.

How about you? What do you do with the books after you've read them?

Hmmm, tough question. I really don't like superheroes that much. The only one I really liked when I was a kid was Wonder Woman. Of course, it passed once I found out I didn't change clothes if I turned into a circle really fast. Hey, I was four! I did love her hair though.

This week’s question is:

What book that hasn't been turned into a movie (yet) would you most like to see make it to the big screen, and who would you like cast as your favorite character?

There are many books that I'd like to see turned into a movie. I think the one that comes into mind right now is Interred with Their Bones by Jennifer Lee Carrell. It's the story of a Shakespeare scholar trying to find one of Shakespeare's lost plays, while trying to escape a vicious killer. The story is more than just compelling, it's wonderful. And it's one of the few books written in 1st person that I actually enjoyed and didn't feel the need to connect fully with other characters or to try to get inside their minds. And on top of that, it's about Shakespeare. I can't decide who I'd like to play Kate Stanley, the heroine, nor Ben, her protector. I'm afraid I'm not that good at pointing out actors and actresses. I do know I would like Ben to have a British accent. So maybe I'd go with Matthew Goode.

What book do you hope to be turned into a movie?
